error on installing pidgin
 
hi,
i am a newbie to rpms.
i hav downloaded pidgin-2.0.1-0.src.rpm and run as
rpm -i pidgin-2.0.1-0.src.rpm

it throws warnigs as

FYI running on RH 9

don't use .src.rpms only use .i386 / .i586 or .i686.rpms. src is source code, not a compiled program. but you're not really asking a valid question... it's just giving you warnings, the installed wtill "worked" ok. additionally i expect you'll have a LOT of problems getting somethign as new as pidgin to run on something as old as redhat 9 (6 years now...)

Because this a source package (.src.rpm), you have to build the binary package like this:
Code:

rpmbuild --rebuild <package_name>.src.rpm
This will build <package_name>.rpm which you can install by:
Code:

rpm -Uvh <package_name>.rpm

Assuming he has gcc, glibc-devel, gtk2-devel and a trillion other things installed, which i'm guessing he hasn't...
