Ladies and Gentlemen,

I have just decided to download and install the new Unreal Tournament demo on Red Hat 9.0, both to become more familiar with Linux and to check out the game. The install went fine, and while installing it, it told me that all prerequisites were in place on my system.

When I type the command ut2004demo into the terminal, it attempts to start and I get the error message:

Couldn't initialize SDL: Found no sufficiently capable X11 visuals


Google usually saves my life on issues like this, but this time it only turned up people complaining with the same error, but caused by different programs, and I found no solution to it. Can somebody point me in a direction that will solve this problem?

I don't belive that this is any type of problem with a dependency, both because the install tested for them, and when I installed Redhat, I put literally everything on all 3 cd's on my machine. The hardware of the machine is all 6+ years old, (300Mhz processor, 128 MbRam, horrible 4Mb graphics card), so that may be the source of the problem.

I really, really really doubt that Unreal(R) Tournament 2004 would initialize with only 4 mega of video RAM. You are very bellow the requirements for UT2004demo:

Operating System: Windows 98/Me/2000/XP
Processor: Pentium III or AMD Athlon 1.0 GHz processor
Memory: 128 MByte RAM
Hard Disk Space: 300 MByte free
Video: 32 MB Windows compatible video card
Sound: Windows compatible sound card. NVIDIA nForce or other motherboards/soundcards containing the Dolby Digital Interactive Content Encoder required for Dolby Digital audio.
DirectX: DirectX version 9.0b or higher

If you really want to run new games, you might consider an upgrade...

Drag, I was hoping it would be an easily fixed software issue. I have the game running on my Winblows box, so I didn't need it to play, I just wanted to see if in my Linux newbieness I coulds get it to run. Thanks for your help.
