Well, guys, I don't know how to fix this problem. As I mentioned I got the libgtkspell installed but now I'm getting all kinds of other errors. For the record, you're saying that I have to uninstall my current version by typing:
rpm -e gaim
The package uninstalls. . .
Is there anything else I need to do to remove the entire package? Do I have to remove all traces by doing a locate on GAIM and removing all trace elements of the program?
Next, I have the rpm's on my desktop for the newer versions. I double click on the newest version. It appears to install, however, I cannot launch the program. CAN SOMEONE HELP ME? I'm very frustrated here. Thank you.

you can remove gaim by looking in red hat's package manager - should be kde-system-kpackage - you can see if gaim is in there.
You can look at my guide, I put instructions on there for installing gaim. You can also message me if you like, I am online a lot and I will help you if I am around. I use icq, aim, msn, and yahoo.
Everything went smoothly. My new Gaim icon is now under Internet/More Internet Applications. It automatically converted my buddy list when I fired it up.
