error: Can't find X includes!


while trying to run ./configure on a program called anthem i got the following error:

checking for X... configure: error: Can't find X includes. Please check your installation and add the correct paths!

anyone have an idea of what i need to do?

another error

it seems anytime i try to do a tarball install i get some type of error on the end of the ./configure messages, here is another:

checking for libz... configure: error: not found. Check your installation and look into config.log

did i miss something during my system install?
i refuse to reinstall my system!
