My old HP printer was definitely broken. So I have to buy a new one. After installing and configuring this new one in my old hplip version I decided to upgrade both printer firmware and hplip version (from 3.15 to 3.16).
All this work fine until I restart my computer. After log on I had an error in syslog :
Mar 26 03:38:10 servername hp-systray: hp-systray[PID]: error: option -s not recognized
And a bug report popup opened if I wish to send an error (not really explicit popup).
I made some research on the web, and if I found some other people who have the same issue, I don't find any solutions.
So I look for some information in my system about when this program has been launched and in "HPLIP status service" for a mistake in my configuration. And in "HPLIP status service" I found that no default printer had been set. Must due to the removing of the old printer. I was thinking it had no matter with my error but I set my new one as default.
After that I don't have the hp-systray error anymore. So did some others users have had experienced the same issue ?
What about the resolution, I'm not sure but I think the hp-systray must have a default printer to work fine when lauching my new session ?
And because I'm not sure that the issue don't come back, and if people experienced the same issue they can test my solution (and tell if it work for them), I decided to put it here.
Old printer : HP C410b all-in-one
New printer : HP OfficeJet Pro 6830
OS : ubuntu 14.04
Hello,
Yes I had configured my printer when it happened.
I don't try the lpstat -t. But the lpq (I had printed a test page and want to know the status) said that there is no printer found. I had to give the explicit name for my printer :
lpq -P Officejet_Pro_6830.
I had set default printer via hp tool for my laptop (for my desktop, ubuntu 12.04 I used cups).
