Thanks for the info aus9.

Even though I'm a great believer in "if its not broken don't try and fix it" I am intrigued as to why you have given me the gutenprint and cups info. What difference will it make if I try these out? I thought I WAS using cups! ... obviously I'm not.

So, let me know what the benefits could be ... I've already used the scanner and printer (via insane in the gimp - printing out through scribus ... they work a treat!).

if you don't want to try them out thats fine

lets pretend you installed the software...or downloaded it and used xarchiver to unpack it.

go to your current cups driver..../etc/cups/ppd and look how many options you have
if not found try /usr/share/cups/model for your ppd

what I am talking about is better resolution and options....for those printers supported
