EPS editor?

Does anyone know of an editor for PS/EPS(/PDF) files? Like Illustrator, but free (and for linux obviously). I'm looking for some program to let me move elements around in the EPS, and change line width and so on. I really prefer not to do that in a text editor as illustrator generates quite messy eps files ...

Not that I know of, however it is easy enough to either import PS files into the GIMP and edit them there, before exporting them once again; or using Imagemagick to convert them to FIG files and then edit using Xfig or an equivalent.

Cheers,

GIMP rasterizes them so that is not an option. Converting to FIG might work but I fear they are destroyed too much by it (I want to change a really small piece in an otherwise complex figure). I'll try the FIG thing but I'm not very optimistic I'm afraid.

Fedora Core 4 binaries on imagemagick.org. What a luxuary!

Yes! Found it! pstoedit
Not the best of solutions, but works for me.

By the way, imagemagick rasterizes too, or I missed some important flag. (?)

Nooo it does not work
It screws up bounding boxes and fonts. Damnit, I was almost happy. Guess I'll have to find a Windows machine with illustrator now

Oops -- was meaning pstoedit, not Imagemagick

It worked fine for the diagrams I was working with at the time, though by the sounds of it yours are a tad more fiddely.

Good luck, and post back if you do find a better linux alternative.

Cheers,

mj
