Enlightenment menu customize?

I have E17 (well, 16.99 ) installed and running great. This is a blast but it's pretty basic still. I've been using enlightenmet-remote and some options from the user manual (at www.get-e.org) to help me change some settings like the background, etc, but I'm still sort of in the dark...

For instance, is there a way to get some sort of GUI menu of installed programs/apps, like the "K" menu in KDE or the GNOME app menu? I was sure I had seen this in Enlightenment before, perhaps I was wrong.

I don't know all the apps I want to use by name so I'd like a menu back if possible... Oh, and if anyone knows how to get Emblem running that would be cool (apparently it's in a package called eutils but I don't know where/what that is??)

BTW I'm running SuSE 10.0, so I'm not sure if it's just a general "SuSE app window" that I can configure in E or something?

Thanks!

Jesse

Being a big fan of enlightenment, I want to help out all I can. Not having used e17 yet, I can't answer directly. Here's what I do know. e16 and prior just used a text file for each 'folder' in the menu. Look in ~/.enlightenment for a list of files ending in '.menu'

The general format is as follows...

For a program item:
"Name of Program" NULL exec "program"

where Name of Program can be anything you like, its just pretty text. NULL is the placeholder for the icon, it can be replaced with the direct path to the icon in quotes. 'exec' means its an executable, not a menu (which is another option) and "program" is the actual filename of the program, including path if it is not off the default system path.

As far as programs that autogenerate, I'm not aware of any. But you can easily create your own, or with some programming knowledge, make a program that does so.

Best of luck!

Thanks for the info, that's a good start. I sorta figured that there was some way to enable a pre-built menu, seeing as some WM's (I think Blackbox or FVWM picked up the "SuSE App Menu", the same as KDE and Gnome had).

I do know that with some themes for enlightenment, there's an option for "rebuild menu" that probes for some apps, but not all. I usually hand tune my menu anyway, being the programmer/hacker that I am.

Sprocket,

I, like you, am new to E17 and still futzing with backgrounds and menues. I haven't taken the time to look at the files, but in your home directory is a directory called ~/.e which is where all of your E17 config files live (in subordinate directories). Look in there for the files and various syntax for creating the menues you want. Also go to http://get-e.org for documentation and various downloads.
