Enlightenment DR17 - IBar - Engage- Add App Icons

Hi

I have just setup DR17 on my FC6 install using the Didier repo. I haven't used E DR17 before, but it is really speedy flashy and fun. I wanted to be able to setup a few application icons up in the Ibar or engage, but I can't quiet figure out how. I have installed engage but don't know how to make it run.

I just need to tweak a few things and I think I will use this as my default desktop it is just that good. If you can answer my question, or know a few good links regarding Dr17 it would be much appreciated.

Here are the links I have E repo for FC6 http://sps.nus.edu.sg/~didierbe/ The Enlightenemnt homepage http://www.enlightenment.org/ E themes to spruce up the experience http://www0.get-e.org/

Oh and a simple one how do I make the Ibar clock digital.
Cheers

Hi!

Yes E17 rocks :-)

To answer your questions:

First you have to create an .eap file for your applications. You do that by right-clicking on the icon in the upper left corner of your application (say Eterm) and chosing 'create icon'. This opens the EAP Editor. You may chose a new icon for your app with clicking on the standard icon. Then you should click on the 'advanced' button and look up the entry in the field 'path'. This is probably something like /home/user/.e/e/applications/all/Eterm.eap - remember the name of the .eap file or change it to one you can remember and save.

Now open the file .order in the folder ~/.e/e/applications/bar/
It should read something like

xterm.eap
sylpheed.eap
firefox.eap
[...]

Just add the names of your newly created .eap files in whatever order you prefer and/or change/delete the standard entries.

Save the file.

Now open the configuration console and module settings and restart the ibar module - you should now see all your quickstart icons.

The same method applies to engage and the favorite apps menu. The .order files are located in the directories ~/.e/e/applications/engage/ and .../favorite/

In the favorite apps menu you can also add subfolders with application entries: just create subdirectories below 'favorite' like e.g. Office/ Games/ or whatever and enter these folder names in the .order file. In those subdirectories create a new .order file and add the applications you want to display here.

In order to get these changes to show you have to restart E17 (use the menu entry, no need to log out ;-))

Done!

In re the 'ibar clock' - are you talking about the background clock? You can add a digital display if you chose either the '12 hour display' or '24 hour display' in the configuration menu.

Hope that helps,
Dina

Cool that did help, I know have my apps on the Ibar. Except I cannot create an app for Idle the python editor as it doesn't have a path entry, what would you do then.

When I wanted to install themes I followed directions to install themes to ~/.e/e/themes and restart, but that had no effect so the only way I could install themes was to create a themes folder in my home directory and import the themes in thru the import option in the themes configuration menu.

Can I have windows come to the front when I click on them ?

You mean there is no entry in the 'path'-box in the EAP-editor? Have you tried just entering the path and filename? Just copy over the entry from one of the other apps, change the filename and save.

Just tried that again, it works here, I didn't even have to restart. After adding a new theme it shows up immediately in the theme selector in the configuration console. Did you check that these themes were in .edj format?

Yes you can change window behavior in the configuration console. Find the tool named 'activation settings' or similar, should be one of the last entries. (Sorry, part of my E17 is localized to german, so I'm not sure what it's called in english). In the 'advanced' section you have to check the box at 'clicking always rises window' or so.

Damn, now you made me look at the E17 website again - so many cool new backgrounds and a new version of SlackE17 - I'm busy now

Have fun,
Dina
