Enlightenment 0.17 has taken over...
Hello,
I recently installed Enlightenment 0.17 from the cvs development branch. Going through the build list, I compiled each and every package, along with each and every app so I could test Enlightenment 0.17; it looked good. Now that I'm done testing it, I am finding that I have a problem running a recently installed version of Enlightenment 0.16.7.2. I install from source after configuring, and get absolutely no errors at all during ./configure, make, and make install. Before I even got Enlightenment working, GDM would not detect the enlightenment entry in the /etc/X11/gdm/Xsessions file, and I therefore could not select it as a session in GDM. I made a file called 'enlightenment.desktop' in /usr/share/xsessions/ (this file allows Enlightenment to be in the sessions list on GDM), and there is a line in this file that says: Exec=enlightenment. When I selected Enlightenment, it loaded 0.17 build_10. This is obviously still in heavy development and is in no way suitable to be used as a window manager. This is even after I installed 0.16.7.2, thinking that it would install over the 0.17 install, seeing as the only enlightenment executables in the system are in /usr/local/bin and that's where 0.16 was installing to (as well as 0.17). I have tried ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/e (/usr/local/e was a directory I created to see if I could put everything in another folder) and then changed the line Exec=enlightenment in the enlightenment.desktop file to Exec=/usr/local/e/enlightenment, and this did not work. I'd really like for this to be able to start working, so any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Additional information: Slackware 10 ; Kernel 2.4.26 |
I'd remove all the enlightenment executables and libraries from your system and re-install 0.16.7.2.

Thanks for the quick reply; would I need to do anything in particular (when it comes to looking at configuration files and the like) for all of the packages I installed to find out what folers it used?
Thanks in advance, --Alex A [edit] Would I have to manually delete the folders and files of the executables and libraries, or is there an easier way? I still have all of the cvs source of e17 and the source for e16... if there's a nifty trick I can use.... |
