Well, to be honest, I am completely out of ideas of why your Sony device will not play that video... Does the device reproduce audio at least? Or just says it won't play it?

That's odd that your device does not play standard divx and mp3 audio... But just googling around for the actual options of mmpeg i end up looking at Sony's website for the device and I found out that your device does NOT play mp4 nor H264, but only WMV. That's why no matter what we try, it won't play

Here's the official website: http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/...specifications

So....

Try this:
Code:
ffmpeg -i /media/gamma/videos/fish_eagle2 -vcodec wmv2 -s 320x240 -b 128k -r 30 -ab 128k /media/WALKMAN/VIDEO/test.mp4
vcodec might be wmv or wmv2 if I recall good.... just try and see. Also try with different bitrates (-b and -ar options)...

I can only say good luck because if this does not work now, I'm out of ideas...

Well, it almost worked.

Code:
ffmpeg -i /media/gamma/videos/fish_eagle2 -vcodec wmv2 -s 320x240 -b 568k -r 30 -acodec wmav2 -ab 128k /media/WALKMAN/VIDEO/test.wmv
Like you said I'm fairly certain that wmv will work, if anything will. At least there's proof that it does work on the player.

The video that does work is Windows Media Codec 9, which ffmpeg doesn't support yet.

What I'll have to do, I guess, is wait for ffmpeg to support this terrible format, and in the meantime upload using windows.

Have you tried what I posted, it shouldn't take long to try, and it may work.

Yeah, sorry. I should have said that more clearly.

I tried it and it didn't show up.
I'm sure playing around with the other options might do it, but at this point I'm messing with too many variables.

What I'd like to do is find a codec that definitly works and then try that. At this point it's only wmv3 (Windows Media 9), so I guess I'll wait for ffmpeg implementation.

Unless (of course) there's other ideas.

And again, Thanks everyone!
