Enable Exchange 2003 webmail with fedora 4 reverse proxy or something

goal: let sales read thier email through the web on the road
situation: ms exchange 2003 on private network to be served through a proxy running on linux redhat fedora core 4 linux on the dmz for security so no one can hack our exchange
Tried
-squid didn't work for -reverse- proxy eg browser hits proxy then proxy asks exchange 2003 for webmail page then gives to browser
-apache worked only for mozilla and only after an initial popup to authenticate you have to hit delete, then second popup works; a hack using reverseproxypass; and sales uses, you guessed it, ie6. no go
-tied something called pound couldn't get it to compile on linux redhat fedore core 4

YAHOO and HOTMAIL do this somehow! how do I?
