empty trash

When i try to empty the trash bin i get the message that I'm not allowed to do so. I have tried chmod a+xwr on the trash but it's still the same. Anybody who can tell me what do do?
I'm using Mandrake 9.1 (Yes i know it's a newbie-os but i get enough of slackware in school)

if you go to a command prompt can you remove files from the trash directory with the 'rm' command?
