Empty kern.log--Debian lenny

Recently I noticed firestarter stopped logging connection attempts and my kern.log file is empty, last date was over a month ago. My dmesg output is normal, what would be the reason nothing is being logged to /var/log/kern.log ? Some service that has been disabled? I can't recall any changes I have made in the last month to any conifg files. Thanks in advance

If kern.log did ever have any entries, which it frequently does not, you may have change the logging level. I can't remember how to set that. The lower the logging level, the less verbose it is.
