Emergency: Can't login to Linux

I wanted to make rc.local boot up executing

httpd

/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqld --user=mysql

and now, it says Mysql Ready for connections, but it doesn't allow me to login,

however there is a text prompt, where nothing works... how do i fix this? i have crucial data on this computer.. and i need to know how to fix it.

The Text prompt is just a blinking line, where no commands work (e.g cd /root/)

Any Ideas? Where can i find a boot disk or something to restore rc.local back to normal?

Use the cd you installed with to boot up.

then login as root and type :

mount /dev/yourdisk /mnt

then

chroot /mnt

then
change the httpd to apachectl start

change the mysql line to safe_mysql &

Sorted !!

Allways say what flavour your using, that should work for slackware and redhat, not used any other distro...

Thanks for responding! I appreciate it greatly!

IT WORKS! YAY!

See, what i was doing before, was mounting the /dev/hda1 partition, since i thought that was the correct partition, then i was curious, what if i tried hda2? and it worked.. lol, i restored my rc.local and it's all good.

only thing is

safe_mysql doesn't seem to be working properly, but it's not big of a deal since i can now login.

Thanks to you and google and the rest of the Linux community.

AWESOME!
