emerge and gnome.. a mess !

hey guys, im currently using gentoo and KDE.
but i want to try out GNOME.

however, all i want ot the desktop managers, is just the basic controll center, window managers, panels, themes, an maybe a few netoworking tools. i dont want the media or pain or scanning or all the other bloat thats there.

i would rather use mplayer or xine over a media program that comes as park of kde or gnome any day.

anyways...

in kde, this was simple....

emerge --pretend kde
shows a list of what would be compiled for kde.
(loads of bloat)

using common sence, i pucked out the list what i would want, and everything was perfect.
i chose

emerge qt
emerge kdelibs
emerge kdebase
emerge kdenetwork
emerge kdeartwork

easy, the first 3 are the minimal for kde to load... and artwork and network are the addons i chose.

but in gnome, it seems nothing is obviouse....

emerge --pretend gnome shows

Code:
These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

i hear nautilus (the file manager) is a big part of the desktop (i fear bloat ware!)

anyways .. heres the packages (tho i never used gnome, or kde ... they install to many programs that would never use .. plus i hate the look of the desktops)

control-center (do i need to explain?)
gnome-panel (yeayea ... i think this is self explaining)

anyways .. emerge should get the dependencies of those apps for you, so that should be all thats needed to get the desktop loop up and running (umm. ok, maybe not "up" you might have to run the programs yourself i believe .. but you'll get the basic desktop look i think)

A good way to start is emerging gnome-light, which covers the core parts of the Gnome desktop. You can then pick out the parts of the Gnome desktop that you would like to add over the very basic tools you have installed.

i tried emerge --pretend gnome-light
and emerge --pretend gnome

and light does use just under half the packages,, but were still talking approx 50 packages !

i know kde and gnome are quite different, but it seems the kde way of grouping packages is much better !

i was hoping to have to emerge GTK2 GNOME-libs and a GNOME-base.

will gnome-light reealy give me a minimall gnome install ?
