Email server and anitvirus scaner
I recently have been having trouble with Postfix and Clam Antivirus.
After about 2 weeks of working fine, Amavisd-new and Clam Antivirus will cease functioning and prevent email from being sent or received. --Is there another open source program other than Amavisd-new that may work better with Clam? --Why would my Antivirus scanner shut down my email delivery after some time? --With Postfix is a program like Amavisd really needed for all antivirus scanners? Any info on this would be greatly apprecited. I'm very very new to this antivirus stuff on email servers. -Joe |
Well, I run postfix for a very small site (home use, 3 users) and I just don't see the point of running antivirus.
I use postfix's body_checks to block most common types of attachments favoured by virusses (scr, pif, cmd, etc) . I let zip files trough but filter for a few virusses on a special string in the zip part. What leaks trough that is perhaps 2-3 virusses a month. Since I do not use outlook express and keep anitivirus on my windows workstations uptodate it's not a problem. |
on a linux from scratch mirror
or possibly it's on beyond linux from scratch ?? there is a section called "hints" in that section is a file called "mail.txt" it has some great instructions for free virun scan and html defanging and spam filtering.. as for what's needed ???????? if you are serving mail out to those dreadfull $MS computers on a network then virus scan is important (i use 2) but otherwise it's not important |

new version cause the old will stop working. I can't remember which version isn't working no more. Look at their site to see which version is the latest. |
You are sure which version was bad? I couldn't find a write-up on anything where a version would just stop working.
