Email filtering on IMAP account

Hi,

I want to start filtering my emails automatically into folders, does anyone have any opinions on which way is best. Should I use message filters in thunderbird or use procmail?

The disadvantage of using message filters is that every time I add a new filter I have to do it on every thunderbird installation(work pc, home pc, laptop etc...)

Sounds like procmail might be best. I use filters in sylpheed-claws but that's only because I'm too lazy to set up procmail. Think about it though, wouldn't you rather do it the Right Way(tm) the first time to save headaches and the inevitable going back to do it anyway?

maildrop is another option. Works well with Postfix for example.

I would like to do it the right way but unfortunately I suffer from laziness also!

I have just thought of something that could be a problem. Just imagine an email arrives at the server and immediately gets moved to a different folder. Will thunderbird recognize that I have got a new email when it checks the server 5 minutes later, afaik it only checks the Inbox???
