eeepc keyboard shortcuts : volume etc with Sidux

I have just removed Kubuntu from my eeepc and replaced it with Sidux. Everything works as it should - except for the keyboard shortcut keys eg Fn + F8 = volume down. I have installed all of the eeepc bits and pieces from sid BUT it still won't work. I feel that I am missing something really obvious.

Lesson learned : don't mess!!! Kubuntu was running fine Curiosity killed this cat.

Hmmmm! That was a fun waste of an evening and part of a Sunday I can't for the life of me get the Fn hotkeys to work and I haven't got the time to "play" any longer so Kubuntu is going back on the eeepc. There was nothing wrong with it in the first place ..... it ran quickly and smoothly and everyhting worked. Maybe i was just ...... bored? Time is too precious to spend any longer on this mini-project so ........ hello Kubuntu (again!)

Well well well. It seems my path is not going to be that smooth. I had Kubuntu 7.10 before and I have just installed Hardy Heron. I don't like it : there is no reason for my dislike. I should probably just "get on with it" but I can't. All of my other machines are SIDUX now. I want the eeepc to follow. I think I can live without the hotkeys for a while.

edit : I seem to be talking to myself

sidux works just fine on the EeePC. As does Debain proper.

Helps if you install the proper packages.
