edgy + beryl

hey i just installed edgy today, configured it as i like it, used automatix to help install a few things and then installed a lot of nice apps and stuff. so basically everything up until i want to install beryl is working A-ok.

i used automatix to install my nvidia driver, i know there a lot of people say it is unsafe but it seems to have worked out great for me and

glxinfo | grep direct

returned

direct rendering: Yes

so it looks as if the driver is working. plus i got the nvidia setting manager.

anyway i tried to install beryl using the guide here

http://wiki.beryl-project.org/index....ntu/Edgy/AiGLX

and everything seemed to go as planned but when i ran beryl-manager x kinda freezes up and i cant click anywhere, it does change the window bars and load the icon into the app bar.

i then looked here

http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu_E...X_.28Nvidia.29

and tried using that guide and the repository and such it suggested, plus the editing of the xorg file which the other didnt even mention. but the same effect happens.

after it freezes like that i can press ctrl-alt-backspace and relogin and everything is fine except i still cant get beryl. any ideas?

Beryl and missing window borders, the non-problem!!

You need to start beryl manager, otherwise you will have no themes or window borders, then you'll think you have a problem when you don't!!!
To start beryl manager automatically add "beryl-manager" to the start up programs and you're done.
Still have problems...use synaptic, uninstall the beryl entries then re-install,start beryl manager from the command line"beryl-manager" and you've got wobbly windows, themes, fades etc etc.
Many people have this problem and it's all down to not starting beryl manager, maybe it's not mentioned in the instructions you got.
As edgy ships with AIGLX you can install just from synaptic with the right repositories enabled, and the correct graphics driver, you don't need the Beta driver and it can cause problems when maximizing windows, though with the constant updates to beryl this might not be the case now.:twocents:
