easiest way to install giFT?

Just wondering what is the easiest way to install giFT? Can you provide me with the specific file name? thanks

it installs the same way as any otehr package... nothign remarkable. just download the source from gift.sf.net and follow any standard tar.gz installation guide, such as the one in the "Linux - General" forum, right at the top

ok i tried that ran the configure and it said "warning this does not come with a client or network "

then after that i tried to run the program and it gives me this error

*** GIFT-FATAL: couldn't load protocol in file /usr/local/lib/giFT/libOpenFT.la: file not found
*** Often times more information can be found in the log file or with the -v command line switch

I did something wrong. Can you help me?

I ran into the same pb: trying to install the openft plugin wouldn't work because libgift was missing and trying to install gift wouldn't work because there was no plugin :-))

My way to overcome this was to first install version 0.11.1 which is a full package (gift and openft), then install the last version of openft, libltdl-devel and finally gift itself. giftd & (instead of giFT &) and here we are...

another problem

ok its probably just me and my lack of knowledge on linux, but when i run the ./configure command in the gift-0.11.3 it says

checking for a BSD-compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c
checking whether build environment is sane... yes
checking for gawk... gawk
checking whether make sets $(MAKE)... yes
checking whether to enable maintainer-specific portions of Makefiles... no
checking for gcc... no
checking for cc... no
checking for cc... no
checking for cl... no
configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH
See `config.log' for more details.

and then when i check config.log i uh..cant understand it..ask if you want that listed too because it is quite big

sorry bout me bein a :newbie:

you have to install the gcc package (rpm -ivh gcc....) on your system.

good luck
