e2fsck and bad blocks

e2fsck and bad blocks

When I run e2fsck on /dev/hda5 it says something like:

This inconsistancy cannot be fixed with e2fsck.
Use dumpe2fs -b to dump out the bad block then use e2fsck -L filename to read it back in.

When I try to run e2fsck -L or -c I get the error message

Ext2 file too big while sanity checking the bad blocks inode.

What should the file look like
(mine looks like this)

33025
262144
4407296

and how do I get e2fsck to run with it.
I've tried single user and resuce mode.
Single user gives the same error, rescue mode can't access the file.
