dvdrecord
I would like to backup about 2.0gb of mp3's to a dvd+rw disc I have a HP dvd writer 300n and I was gonna use k3b, but I need to update to kde 3.1.4 apparently and the size of the update+dependency issues just seems a lot of bother just to write a flamin dvd disc.
So I looked around and found out that i can write dvd discs with dvdrecord but i havnt a clue where to start and have also just read this thread : http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=126561 which has put me off trying :( Will i get the same problem ? is there a newbie tutorial i could use to help me out (a basic one) ? Also I thought that you only needed to create an "image" if you are going to copy a dvd not just burn data to one Can any one help ? |
No, the software always has to build an image of the filesystem to put on the disc. Many frontends will do the pipe magic needed to do it on the fly, but going from the command line, it's a lot easier to make the image first. And no, dvdrecord does not require a KDE update. It does not even require KDE or GNOME or even XFree86 to be installed.
I don't have a DVD burner, just a CD burner, but I imagine that the process can't be much different. |
So why do i get dependency issues when trying to install k3b 0.10 ?
Can i ignore them ? |
K3b does not handle the recording. Dvdrecord does that. K3B does require the update.
