DVD9 to DVD-R with lxdvdrip

If, hypothetically, of course, there were a free society in which it was not illegal to copy DVDs, and a person in that society wanted to copy a dual-layer DVD9 disc to 1 regular DVD-R disc (which I believe is DVD5) using lxdvdrip, how would a person go about doing that? Quality is not a huge concern for this hypothetical person. He just wants it to all fit on one DVD-R. He already knows that copying single-layer DVD discs to DVD-R discs works fine with lxdvdrip on his machine, but just cant seem to get it to work with DVD9 since the total size of all of the .VOB files of a DVD9 disc is too large to fit on one DVD-R (which holds 4.7 GB). Thanks ahead to anyone who might have any hypothetical answers for purely educational purposes.
