Question DVD Ripping and Mencoder

I am using 'mplayer dvd://1 -dumpstream' which produces a 3.6GB copy of my DVD perfectly- video and sound. Then I go to encode it and shrink it down and the sound is the Director's Commentary, not the movie's original audio. There is no commentary on my 3.6GB stream.dump file when I play it in either MPlayer or Xine, but anytime I use mencoder to try and encode, it returns the wrong audio once the .avi is done. Where on earth is this Director's Commentary coming from when I just want the normal audio

These are the commands I have used to encode (which normally work great, audio is how it should be, etc. ):

Quote:
(copy the DVD to disk) - optional, but if you have the disk space, highly recommended
$ mplayer -dvd 1 -dumpstream movie.dvd

From now on, I assume that you have a copy of the DVD in the file movie.dvd. If you're doing all this straight from the DVD drive, substitute movie.dvd for -dvd 1 (if the first chapter of the DVD is the one you're after)

(compress the audio)
$ mencoder movie.dvd -ovc frameno -o frameno.avi -oac mp3lame -lameopts vbr=3:abr=128:q=0:aq=0
To do this straight from DVD, the command would be:
$ mencoder -dvd 1 -ovc frameno -o frameno.avi -oac mp3lame -lameopts vbr=3:abr=128:q=0:aq=0

At the end of this, mencoder suggests bitrates for shrinking the movie to various fixed sizes. Most people will want the outcome to fit on a regular CD, so they choose the second entry, which is for one 700MB CD. Let's say for this example that mencoder suggests 850 bps.

(compress the video, 1st pass)
$ mencoder movie.dvd -oac copy -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vhq:vpass=1:vbitrate=850 -o movie.avi

(compress the video, 2nd pass) - optional, but if you can afford it, it improves quality
$ mencoder movie.dvd -oac copy -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vhq:vpass=2:vbitrate=850 -o movie.avi
from http://www.contrib.andrew.cmu.edu/~a...inux/tips.html

Quote:
mencoder dvd://2 -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vpass=1 -oac copy -o movie.avi
mencoder dvd://2 -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vpass=2 -oac copy -o movie.avi
from http://linux.yaroslavl.ru/docs/conf/...eat-divx4.html

So, any idea why on earth I am getting Director's Commentary rather than my normal audio that plays on the 3.6GB file?

Any advice is very much appreciated so thanks in advance!

Finally found a solution: '-aid 128' will apparently play/encode the first audio track on the DVD/dumped stream.

mencoder dvd://1 -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vpass=2 -oac copy -o movie.avi

Now becomes:

mencoder dvd://1 -aid 128 -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vpass=2 -oac copy -o movie.avi

Finally, no more Director's Commentary
