Dvd:rip / transcode users: when you rip dvds, is the output file the size you expect?

Recently, whenever I use dvd::rip, the output .avi files are always much, much smaller than expected for a given bitrate.

So I was wondering what experiences other people at LQ have had using DVD::RIP *or any other* TRANSCODE-based GUI, and would like to canvas other linux users.

Thanks!
[Note: This is not applicable for Mencoder users (including "Acidrip") and other non transcode based dvd rippers.]

QUESTION: When dvd::rip / your GUI predicts an output size in MB at the bitrate you've chosen, does it work ok, with the output file the predicted size (to within 20Mb above or below)?

OPTIONS:
YES - This has generally been my experience. Works great.
NO - My movies are generally always ripped undersized
NO - My movies are generally always ripped oversized
NO - High action movies are generally oversized, low action movies are undersized
NOT_APPLICABLE - I don't rip dvds / I use acidrip / other program
