DVD player for a voodoo5

I have a voodoo5 in my box and i just got a nice little DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive.
I've installed ogle, but that skips , so how can i fix that
I tried installing MPlayer, but i dont think it works with voodoo5's (if it does let me know)
what other alternatives are there?
why does the video playback look like it was glued together by a crackheaded monkey? (well not that bad, it's pretty good actually)

why should mplayer not work with a certain graphics board? AFAIK it only depends on the video drivers :confused:

it doesn't install because it asks for vidix-driver and there is no driver package for tdfx that i've found yet.. would building from source work???

also, how do i enable DMA? i tried using the command
Code:

hdparm -c 1 -d 1 -k 1 /dev/hdc
that i foudn in another thread but that returned with
Code:

[root@elmer bennyp]# /sbin/hdparm -c 1 -d 1 -k 1 /dev/hdc

/dev/hdc:
 setting 32-bit IO_support flag to 1
 setting using_dma to 1 (on)
 HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Operation not permitted
 setting keep_settings to 1 (on)
 IO_support  =  1 (32-bit)
 using_dma    =  0 (off)
 keepsettings =  1 (on)
