Dvd Player

I cant find out a good DVD player for linux. I have a toshiba 1805 s274, with a dvd/cdrw combo. i have tried XINE, (the default app. that comes with mandrake 9.0) and it wont play dvds. i put a dvd in, and it reads it in the drive, but in xine, when i click the dvd play button, nothing happens.

i have tried video lan client, but i dont know what packages to get because of about 9 dependency problems ( im missing dvdcodec and some others).

I've tried ogle, but thats no good, it doesnt work either. are there any other GOOD ones, like the windows WinDVD ?

if you know of some, i would also like some instructions on how to install them, cause' im a newbie.

i have a dual boot winxp/mdk 9.0 box, and pretty much the only thing holding me back from going ONLY linux and no dual boot is the DVD, and 3d modeling (i want maya for linux, i use 3ds max)

Yeah mplayer, and read the huge documentation on it, that will show you how to install it and configure it. Also make sure you have a device dvd /dev/dvd that is symlinked to your dvd rom drive. Ex: If /dev/hdc is the dvd drive, ln -s /dev/hdc /dev/dvd will create the symlink.

You say you're missing dvdcodec, I guess that's the problem. No program can show dvds without a codec!
