what distribution are you using? If it is one of the apt enabled ones, apt-get install mplayer and your off.

Yes, google for apt4rpm, download it and install it. Then type

apt-get update

wait for it to finish, and then type

apt-get install mplayer

it will download and install mplayer which IMHO is the best media player for linux. If you don't like it you can try Xine, another media player.

apt-get install xine

will download it and install it.

When you are finished watching DVDs do

man apt-get

to see what other things you can do with this wonderful tool.

Newbie here.

Is Fedora Core 1 apt-get enabled? How do we apt-get something? I typed apt-get in a terminal window as root and got command not found.

Thanks.

You have to install it first. Like I said, google for apt4rpm, go to their page, read up, download and install the RPMs. It will explain how to set up ypur sources.list (basically just uincommenting a relevant line in the file) and once you've done that you're good to go.
