DVD playback continued

I have a Slackware 9.1 system. Its a fresh install, nothing additional installed. I'm not picky on the software, but I want to be able to watch DVDs. I was given a partial list but Im looking for a newbized set of instructions of what I need to download and how to install in order to get DVDs to work.

I love mplayer...and it works great
but when watching dvds now I use Xine because I like having the DVD navigation stuff...however it does use a lot more resources than gmplayer does.

But for everything else, I use mplayer.
