I recently got a free DVD from Linux Magazine of Suse 9.1 professional...

I want to install it on my win98 S.E. machine... 466MHZ cpu (celeron)
256 MB ram.....16X DVD reader...

I put the DVD in and reboot and it gives me the options and I select Installation...

it starts to install but hangs up with no further activity after about 10 % of the progress bar going across....

No more disk activity after one one hour of waiting ...

Do I have to put this OS on a newer computer ???

Knoppix doesn't load up on this computer either !!!???

Redhat 9 and Fedora core1 install perfectly !!

See if hitting F2 key enables more debugging output on the display to find out where it is hanging.
Almost all distributions have hardware they don't like/support.
Old hardware and Very new hardware are all generally an issue !!

The output of F2 is 25 lines or so of normal looking installation probes ....no error messages that I can see....the last line I get is

>>> SUSE Linux installation program v1.6.19 (c) 1996-2004 SUSE LINUX AG <<<

Under that is a non-blinking flat cursor that does not respond to keyboard input...I've left it for up to an hour with no change...

Guess I'm out of luck for SUSE.....
