DVD File Sizes
 

Is there a way to figure out how big a dvd iso image will be before encoding? When I encode a collection of smaller mpeg and avi files into dvd format, I have to guess at how many can fit into a single-layer dvd iso image. Since the encoding process usually takes several hours, I was wondering if there are any applications or even a simple way to approximate how much I can fit on a single dvd (6 hour guess & test trials are a pain).

Also, despite the fact that single-layer dvd's are labeled as holding only 120 minutes, the varying quality of movie clips changes this enormously.

i don't know if there is a specific tool to tell you this...

Can you not encode a small avi to dvd format, and use the size difference to come up with a rough ratio of avi -> dvd size?
