DVD Copying

I want to learn how to copy DVD's using linux i was able to do it when i had windows using AnyDVD by Slyfox and Nero Recode. Now I don't know whats out there and i don't know where to get started. I have an idea of what i might need though, somthing to crack the css, somthing to shrink the files so they fit onto a 4.7gb DVD.

Something like k9copy? There's a number of pieces of software for backing up copies of your DVDs. Just search sourceforge or freshmeat.

Excuse my ignorance. css means "cascading style sheet" to me.
Anyhow, I guess you want to shrink a video dvd to fit onto a 4.7 disc. I still do it with dvdshrink. Works with wine. The video preview window is screwed, and you might need to turn off the sound, because it get's stuck and does strange things. The rest of the program works great with the same speed as in windows.

There is some way to do it natively in linux, but it's still a pain. I would shrink it with dvdshrink, and burn with k3b.

It's a good idea to specify your distribution in your preferences.

I have an issue with vobcopy. I can get the DVD's to copy and they will play on my DVD player but I can't get them to play on my computer with Linspire's version of Xine (from Linspire's CNR, $10 for Soft DVD player that plays encrypted DVD's). The original works but the unencrypted copy gives me an error 'input plugin cannot open MRL [dvd:/]'.

Any thoughts?

Other than Linspire/Freespire bashing......

Here's a nice little guide. The shrinking step is a pain though.
Cheers
