DVD copy question (using an ISO)

Hi all,

Was wondering - if I were to copy a DVD directly from the device to a file, (for example: #>cp /dev/dvd isofile) could I then burn that "isofile" direclty to a DVD? This should work, right? Am I missing something?

Sorry if this has been asked before but I couldn't find any info on it.

dd if=/dev/dvd of=yourfile.iso

But I'm not sure about the capacity... I thought that DVD-R's were only capable of around 4.4GB and off-the-shelf DVDs peg at aroung 9GB.

Thanks... forgot about dd. I think the capacity might have to do with how many layers the DVD has. Does anyone know how many layers a DVD movie usually has?

I want to be able to "archive" my DVD movies but 1 DVD per DVD-R Can this be done?
