DVD Burner accessible from command line - WODIM?

Colleagues, hi

I'm trying to create a script that will write the contents of s folder to a blank DVD and then eject it.

The overall project is to automate a backup process ..
1. copy all files to be backed up to a certain directory
2 burn the contents of the directory to a blank DVD left in the burner
3.eject the DVD so secretary can pick it up in morning

I can only fond wodim on my system (Fedora Core 8)
but cant seem to work out how to use it properly.
The man pages are huge, but all a bit hard to figure out,
and no 'simple' example of a file write

I imagine the command is something like ..
wodim -sao -eject dev=dev/cdrw /backupdirectory
but it complains that I haven't specified tracksize or something.
end of output follows ...

Beginning DMA speed test. Set CDR_NODMATEST environment variable if device
communication breaks or freezes immediately after that.
Drive DMA Speed: 17578 kB/s 99x CD 12x DVD
FIFO size : 4194304 = 4096 KB
Track 01: data unknown length
wodim: Track 1 has unknown length.
wodim: Use tsize= option in SAO mode to specify track size.

Any advice on how to make this work?
or perhaps a better idea on how to burn the contents of a directory to a DVD

How about this script? It doesn't eject, but you can add
a line to eject it if you like. However, you're leaving
your cup holder out from some leg to break off.

If you need a DVD you can change a little to use growisofs.

Bruce thanks

I will try it over the weekend when the office is empty

You're perfectly right about the danger of leaving it open
just following a request from the MD,
who also asked for a rotating orange light
to draw the secretary's attention
to the fact that she needs to do something at the server.

Seems he found a novelty USB gadget that turns the light on
based on a program event.
He has too much time on his hands, we all think

You can tell the MD I think he should stand there with a
pointed cap on his head and a flag in his hand, waving it
and blowing a whistle. He obviously thinks the secretary
doesn't have enough sense to get in out of the rain.
