Unhappy Dual Booting Trauma - 2 Hard drives- WHAT to Do????

Hello fellow techheads and linux devotees.

Iam enquiring about a dilemnae about a DUAL Boot Linux boX i built.

I have Suse8.2 set as a master on a Fujitsu MPE3064at Hdr (6.99 gb)

I installed Rhat 7.3 as master (best recollection) ona Seperate Hdr Western Digital WD64aa (6.44gb) -

This is all on a i686 ()celeron system-nothing exotic. Using 384 mb of Ram . Simple Matrox mGA series vid card.

The Installs by themselves work fine ,when using dvd/cdrom as Master & Hdrive as Slaves.

However since they both have GRUB --- How would I possibly set up master/slave relationship If I put the 2 Hdr-ves on the Same IDE Channel????

This has been ToUgH??!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

adios ,chilibowl

I set bios to decide which is the first boot order and install them one at a time. Each one I change bios so that the installer thinks the one I install on is the first drive. That way I just use either boot order or F key at boot to select my OS.

Now there is no such thing as a master slave it is only the first active bootable partition that lets the system try to boot. Then one can use grub to select what one wants if that is what you want.

linux do not have slave/master problems like win. One grub copy can boot any system on almost any media(however you might need to tweak options a little.

if you put all hdds on one ide wire(this is bad performance idea)
you need one hdd that have grub and bios setting to boot this ide.
in grub config you need to add (if it will not autodetect) boot line option that point to second hdd linux install

PS however like jefro noted , i sugges to use UUID instead of /dev/sdXX in grub configuration to avoid problems
