dual boot xp sp2 and fedora core 2

hi everyone i have been having alot of issues trying to dual boot with windows xp pro sp2 and fedora core 2 either grub wont boot windows or i get it so that grub has a hard disk error. Finally got both drives wiped clean and wanted to know how to prevent those previous problems
a) make grub boot windows properly
b)actually recognize the 2 os's

Install windows first. It will write it's bootloader to the MBR.

Install Linux second, being careful during installation to install grub to the MBR and not the to the root parition. Linux should detect windows, and correctly write a grub config to show both windows and Linux in the grub menu on power up. You should then be able to boot either one.

Had you not wiped both OSs, we might have been able to help you fix the grub config to boot windows, with a little info from you about partitions and the contents of your grub config file.

By the way, why Fedora Core 2? It's several years out of date, if you're doing a new install you might as well start with Fedora Core 7.
