hi guys ,
i have a sony vaio which uses the broadcom wireless driver ... i was able to add the linux-firmware-nonfree and the bcmwl-kernal repos using synaptic to enable the wifi on my ubuntu gnome 14.10, so my wireless was configured on it ... however i have not been able to do anything with the fedora 21 ... also the other option of dsl, does not run on the gnome 3 interface where the network manager does not permit an addition of a dsl connection (various tricks including nm-connection-editor addition also tried) ... so while running fedora 21 i have no option of going onto the net except for my phones usb tethering, using my phones 3g network ...also can you also let me know how to know find out which drivers a laptop runs (my senior has an HP and is unable to configure his wireless on the linux mint 17.1 cinnamon) ...
please help me out .... tried a lot of options without any success ....

Can you see your network in the upper right hand corner of your Network Manager in Fedora?

thanks ... shall try it out and let you know for sure ... will have to get a live usb for fedora to do the same ... installed mint 17.1 in the meanwhile to avoid hassles ... however also noted that i am unable to connect bluetooth to any device using mint 17.1 or ubuntu 14.04... and my android phone doesnt detect the laptop bluetooth despite it being on and visible ... worked fine as long as i had windows on the laptop, which i formatted as it was a pain... the rfkill command shows that there are no hard or soft blocks ...any idea regarding this .... and also the wifi problem for fedora 21...

Your phone may not be detected because you might not have MTP Media Transfer Protocol installed.

My Linux Mint box didn't see my android tablet until I installed MTP.

I never could get Fedora to see my tablet. In fact I installed MTP and for some reason I still couldn't get it to work.
We have a "Android Forum" so you could post there for your android phone.

Maybe another member will chime in that can help you with Bluetooth; sorry I don't have experience with Bluetooth.

how do i install MTP ... on the mint right ???? as for the fedora suggestion dsl worked, thanks a ton .... tried to update the system and use the dnf command to install wifi on the network manager and entire networking got affected ... now cant connect to anything on fedora ... dont know if it is just me or this fedora 21 is really a pain ... anyways thanks for the suggestions ...
if you could help me with this fedora mess then i would really be very grateful ... at the moment just frustrated with fedora 21 ... no wonder mint is no 1 on the distrowatch ...

On Mint open your Synaptic Package Manager and in the search box type MTP.
Mark the package for installation by right clicking on it and than tell Synaptic to install it.
You might have to restart. (can't remember if I did or not)

So the dsl instructions worked for Fedora but when you updated the system now it's not working?
Do you see your network in the upper right hand corner in the network mgr?

I know that dnf replaced yum but you should still be able to use yum. Unless it's not installed. Try using yum to update.

just had a look at cent os 7 .... it has the classic gnome with the routine panel and stuff ... am very fond of the new gnome 3 interface and hence was trying fedora, opensuse and even debian ... didnt get any far in either of them .... even tried the gnome version of ubuntu which sucked .... even tried elementary os .... how about deepin .... or any other with the gnome 3 interface ....let me know if there are better options ... cinnamon is good, hate kde , unity is ok , the rest like xfce or mate or the others are fair .... for me of-course ... let me know if you could suggest accordingly ......

I have CentOS 7 installed with Gnome 3 and I too am fond of it.
I'm running Linux Mint with the Cinnamon DE and it has been stable and has been running well for me.

As far as desktop environments go; I don't like KDE at all. (reminds me to much of Windows)

XFCE, Gnome, and Cinnamon have all ran very well for me and I've had no problems or performance issues.
I've never tried the Mate DE but I have spoken to a Mate Moderator and it runs well and is stable.

I stay away from Unity. If I'm not mistaken from threads I have read here and online that Unity has a bug:-

No getting the wifi to work was always a problem.... Can cent os be made to look as good as fedora 21....

I think it depends on which DE you have as to if you can make CentOs look similar to FC.
