DRM/DRI and Gentoo 2005.0

Hello. I recently installed Gentoo Linux 2005.0 (kernel 2.6.12-r9) on my eMachiens T2596. My computer has the Intel 845GV chipset. Under distributions such as SuSE or Fedora or Mandrake, I was able to get DRI working, so I could play 3D games without software rendering. Unfortunately, this isn't working with Gentoo

I tried installing x11-drm, and tried installing the i915 snapshot from freedesktop.org. Any ideas??

You have the following in your kernel

Code:
Processor type and features --->
<*> MTRR (Memory Type Range Register) support

Character devices --->
<*> /dev/agpgart (AGP Support)[*] Intel 440LX/BX/GX and I815/I820/I830M/I830MP/I840/I845/I850/I860 support
(Enable your chipset if the one above isn't it.)
<*> Direct Rendering Manager (XFree86 4.1.0 and higher DRI support)
<M> Your Video CARD
Just wanting to verify that all necessary peices are there.

Well...

/dev/agppart and Intel 440LX/BX/GX don't show up as selectable. This is what I get:

--- /dev/agpgart (AGP Support)
│ │< > ALI chipset support
│ │< > ATI chipset support
│ │< > AMD Irongate, 761, and 762 chipset support
│ │< > AMD Opteron/Athlon64 on-CPU GART support
│ │--- Intel 440LX/BX/GX, I8xx and E7x05 chipset support
│ │< > NVIDIA nForce/nForce2 chipset support
│ │< > SiS chipset support
│ │< > Serverworks LE/HE chipset support
│ │< > VIA chipset support
│ │< > Transmeta Efficeon support
│ │< > Direct Rendering Manager (XFree86 4.1.0 and higher DRI support)

They show up as "---" not "< >" or "[ ]"

Thanks for replying,
Nir J

I believe that means that they are selected because of a dependancy, so it would seem that you have all the correct kernel drivers selected.

Does your xorg.conf have the DRM module being loaded?

it loads "dri" and "glx." Would adding "drm" help?

sorry, that was my typo, DRI is what you needed to check. I don't know that there is a DRM module.

I'm on a windows PC right now, so I can't verify this command, but
there is a command that is like opengl-update, which should report that you have two choices:
xorg
ati

make sure the xorg is the one being used.
