Drivers for RedHat 6.3
Hey guys.
I just install RedHat 6.3 on my laptop and I want too install the drivers. I already knows that all the drivers are install in the kernel. but the WIFI and network are not comes up when i open the computer. so how can I configure that (Like in windows) I can choose a wifi connection ? more than that i would like to check which devices are not installed well. thx guys.. |
Why did you choose to install RHEL 6 on your laptop? RHEL isn't geared toward consumers, it is server based.
Besides that: RHEL isn't a free product, you need to pay for it. If you want a free, RHEL alike alternative you could install Fedora |
I choose that because I take a course of that.
and I get the CDs of RHEL. I need to learn on this computer.. so you says for install that i need to pay? its dosnet make sens, maybe i can download rpm of redora.. or some |

There is a free alternative for RHEL, which is 99.9% compatible: CentOS I would not install RHEL or CentOS as your main operating system, but use a virtual machine and install it there. |
so you says that there is no other way to download this drivers?

for redhat RHEL 6.5 and you NEED that support contract for backports to the few year old and out of date 6.3
So no you do not install "drivers" most are built in to the OS the others you NEED that support contract you do not install anything if it is not on the old dvd for 6.3 buy the required license ! or do not use RHEL and install CentOS ( or migrate to CentOS 6.5 ) http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Migrat...=%28migrate%29 and to repeat all of the above RHEL6.5 CentOS 6.5 ScientificLinbux 6.4 ( soon to be 6.5 ) are not the best operating systems for a laptop now most laptops will mostly work mostly well -- mostly Not all laptops will support it some will NEVER be able to run most of the operating system Now i use SL ( a clone of RHEL ) everyday, BUT and it is a BIG BUT It is not the operating system I use on my everyday computer, for everyday things for that i use OpenSUSE |

And you seem to have ignored all the rest of what was said about RHEL, CentOS, servers vs. consumer hardware, etc. Also, you don't really provide ANY useful details..your question was: Quote:
Depending on your desktop environment (which you don't say anything about either), you can probably run NetworkManager and select a network as you want to. Does the wifi interface show up at ALL? What diagnostics have you performed? What is the output of "ifconfig -a"? AGAIN: It would be FAR BETTER if you used a consumer-grade distro like Fedora, openSUSE, or Mint. |
