driver issues with epson wf2530 wireless printer

Hello, I am having problems getting a driver for my wireless printer epson wf2530. I open the printers section and press add printer and under network printer it shows up but it is not listed when going forward to find a driver. After the 'searching for drivers' window finishes i get a suggested generic driver which activates the printer but doesn't print anything but garbage. So i tried again and chose to try the epson choice but wf2530 isn't listed.I looked at the epson site and it had a linux driver (.deb) but said that they don't support linux and the driver would need additional dependencies. I installed it anyway and sure enough it never worked. Can anyone suggest how to either get a working driver (as a .deb as don't know about source stuff) or how to get all the necessary dependencies for the epson driver.I am using mint 17.1 but tried zorin and it was exactly the same issue so i am assuming it is an ubuntu 14.04 issue which they are based on?.Any help is much appreciated Brian.

Check your Linux distribution repository first. You are looking for a package called something like 'printer-driver-escpr'. This is a repackaging of the Epson-provided driver. Support for your Epson WF-2530 was added by Epson in version 1.2.2 of their driver, so you need a version at or above that.

From a quick check, Ubuntu has a 1.3.0 package, Debian has an older 1.1.1 (too old for your printer) and newer 1.4.1 packages for testing/unstable releases. I can't see any in Mint (but I'm probably looking in the wrong place).

Your second choice is to get one of the 2 .deb packages from Epson (the download.ebz.epson.net site), install it, and trouble-shoot any missing dependencies. There are two drivers for your printer: ESC/P and ESC/P-R (these are two different printer languages; your printer supports both). You can use either, but I suggest trying the ESC/P-R (escpr) one first.

The only dependency I know of (besides CUPS, of course) is that the packages built by Epson require the "lsb" (Linux Standards Base) loader. (The Debian and Ubuntu packages do not have this requirement - that's why you should try your distribution's repository first.)

Building it yourself from source gets around the dependency, but you already wrote that you don't want to do that. There is a work-around for the LSB dependency that I have used on Slackware, and I can help with that if you get to that point.

This might help: http://www.openprinting.org/printer/...WF-2530_Series

Hi:

After you get your driver installed Open CUPS in your browser:
http:localhost:631

Select the printer. Then "Maintenance", then "Cancel" all Jobs (just to make sure there are no pending jobs)
Then select Administration and 'Add' Or 'Delete' your Printer.

When I loose power my wireless printer goes off-line and I have to repeat this step to set my printer back up again.
You might have to as well.

Hope that helps-:)
