driver install

Why is driver installation so difficult.(talking about mainboard and video) I have a gigabyte mboard with via kt600 chipset and an nvidia geforce videocard wirh 128 mbyte memory. Seems like windows is decades ahead of linux in this regard. Is it worthwhile to buy libranet or suse or is the driver problem the same. Seems the free distros are so disabled all they do is piss me off.

Are you having trouble with the installation of the nvidia driver (official one from the site)? That's one of the easiest drivers I installed.
