Driver for xfx geforce fx 5600 graphics card

I'm extremely new to linux I refuse to pay $150 for a round pice of plastic in a piece of nicely folded cardboard. I don't have linux yet but i will in like 2 days, i'm just trying to get ready to set everything up. My graphics card needs direct x to run and I see no drivers anywhere for this for linux. Also does anyone know any good programs like crossover but that doesn't rip off your arm and leg, that program took it past pulling your leg they want like $70.

I've just spent a few minutes searching via www.google.com/linux for information about xfx geforce 5600 cards, and I don't find anything which says activex is required. That may just be a windows requirement.

Linux provides the nv driver for nvidia graphics (2d graphics). It's a fairly easy matter to download the nvidia driver (for 3d graphics) from their website and install it (easy is relative: easier on some distros than on others).

My suggestion: before you install, download and burn to cd a few livecd distributions. Power up with the livecd in the drive, and run Linux from cd instead of the hard drive. Find out if your hardware is detected and enabled.

Once you decide what Linux Distribution you are going to install, stop back and ask about he nVidia drivers, Someone will be able to direct you to a how-to that is specific for the version of Linux you are running.

Enjoy !!

To make things clear, under linux there is no such thing as DirectX. DirectX is developed by microsoft as their alternative to OpenGL, for Fedora you can get the nvidia drivers using the livna repository.
