Drawing Arrows

Okay graphic gurus, I most definitely am not an artist. I never would be hired to draw a straight line. How do I draw a simple arrow line in Kolourpaint or Krita?

I wanted to add some pointer arrows to a screen grab and found no such tool or brush. My search on the web provided no clues.

If you mention gimp I'll just stare at you with glassy eyes. My mind does not grok gimp.

Thanks.

In Dia you have all kinds of arrows. In krita and kolourpaint you must overlay/paste them

You are kidding, right?
1) open kolourpaint
2) make default document
3) zoom it in to 400..800%
4) select line instrument, select black ink, select minimal line width
5) Hold shift, In any place of document document left-click and drag down, then release mouse button, release shift
6) Now aim at the top end of the line, hold mouse button, drag it to the left and down, release mouse button. This is a part of arrow tip.
7) Aim at the same end of line, hold mouse button, drag it to the RIGHT and down until line is exact mirror copy of other part of tip. Release mouse button.
8) Connect both parts of tip with line.
9) Select bucket fill and click on the white parts of the arrow tip.
10) done

Artists don't draw straight lines. That's what are rulers for.

Okay, you answered my question. Thank you.

However, I'll blame myself for not asking the question I intended. The quality of an answer is related to the quality of the question. With that said, I'll throw some sarcasm and cynicism into this thread, although intended to be rhetorical and not toward any person.

"You're kidding, right?"

[sarcasm]No, I'm not kidding. Where is the straightforward tool/button to draw arrows? Why should I jump through hoops to create such a common drawing element? Little features like this distinguishes mediocre software from great software. Usability is the name of the game. My goodness, more than a decade ago in Visio I could create arrows with a simple click of a button.[/sarcasm]

Why not try inkscape, it has a nicer interface and you can do a lot more with it.

I'm no fan of GTK (I dislike the file picker dialog boxes), but I will try Inkscape. I'm building the package as I write.

With that said --- I am not a graphics person. Almost all of the graphics work I do is from screen grabs. If I recall correctly, Inkscape is a vector drawing tool and of course, screen grabs are bitmapped. I imagine Inkscape allows pasting a screen grab, or at least importing bitmaps?

Well, yes you can load images then draw on top of them, I do this a lot to "fix" documents

You said you wanted to draw arrows and other stuff like that, so I'd say inkscape would be a good choice. I've also made plenty of figures for papers this way instead of using openoffice, mostly because it comes out looking more professional.
