download streaming video


Hello, is there anything like StreamDown [http://stream-down.cocsoft.com/] for Linux? I tried google, but didn't get anything, maybe I wasnt searching right keywords. I remember reading something about some app like that but cant remember the name.

mplayer can do this just fine.

you nkow, it's not exactly useful saying "is there something like XYZ for linux?" why should we know what XYZ can do? instead explain the functionality you require.

Ok thanks, I didn't know mplayer can do that.

Sorry I didn't describe, but I thought that pointing to a windows app that does specifically what I wanted was more precise and better, than me explaining the desired functionality.

If you can get the url for the stream then "wget" will download it
wget http://www.website/stream.wmv
rtsp:/ mms:/ pmn:/ are not supported by wget though

Mplayer will also dump it's stream to a file
mplayer -dumpstream -dumpfile abc.wmv mms://website/filename.wmv:80

Look at the man pges for wget and mplayer
man wget
man mplayer
