Download speed at bittorrent sucks!

How do I configure bittorret? The thing uploads at 20kbps but downloads at 3kbps. There are open ports, firewall already checked, but no way. Also, I found no config file.
Help!

yeP as above bittorrent will only be fast if there are fast and lots of seeders, tho the best way to get fast downloads its to grab torrents as soon as they appear that way there will be lots of ppl grabbing the file, and therefore more seeders and sources.

torrents tend to die out rather quickly after the initial "feeding frenzy!"

Can someone edit that immature post out please (AlexCryers)? Anyhoo, why dont you tell everyone what you did, Alex, and then there will be less people with his 'attitude' (I dont see anything wrong with his attitude, IMO). Anyway, the torrent being recent is important, but are you doing any other internet tasks while downloading? Try stopping those tasks.

There are a couple solutions to this problem. The main one is if you are behind a router/firewall you can open up/unblock certain ports that this file sharing/P2P clients use. Another depends on the people seeding. If there aren't many seeders with high bandwidth then that is a problem. I would try a torrent file from like mandrake or slackware that has high speed people sharing and try it compared to say another torrent that you don't know if it has high speed people sharing or a lot of people sharing. mm thoughts spinning the wheels

Hey, it's like I said earlier..

If people didn't mind their own business this kinda thing wouldn't happen..

What is it you think you're being smart with your comments or something, well it's just words to me and they mean nothing, like I'd believe anything that a person said after those kinda comments, after everything that's already been said, yeah right!

What is it with people that use linux anyway? Just because this is a linux site it doesn't mean you have to be a nob about how you use your computer, I'm sure that most of the people on this planet wouldn't even care about what certain people have to say, do you think that I should care like them?

Maybe if people started believing in other people's comments instead of trying to rubbish their opinions in front of others this rudeness and ignorance wouldn't occur so much and computers could be more of an enjoyable experience for the rest of the world and the people involved and trying to learn more from them. Sadly this is not the case and it's just a dam shame, after all I've had my training and know all the details, linux is only an operating system like windows, they're all different in their own way. It's just up the each individual to learn for themselves, how can somebody argue about something an individual has already achieved? Maybe that person needs to re-think their situation before trying to offer their help, especially when they have no idea who they're speaking about or to. I'm sure that somebody won't be happy with my comments, but hey.. do I look bothered? how far exactly are they willing to go with this?

Well good luck and be sure to make yourself look like an ass, if that's your speciality then go for it, at least it's better than being a nobody. It's just more spice to add to the sauce, I just feel sorry for those who have a taste and are nearly sick but that's just life! I just hope they can recover themselves and carry on, heck if that's not the case then there's nothing I can do about it.

i was laughing at all the comments people were passing, i wasnt laughing at anyone in particular, maybe u feel a little insecure - i cannot help you there.

i on the other have an MCSE, its no big deal, but i got bored with windows and thats why i use linux, i am learning too, and i yes i also get frustrated, i post and people dont even reply to my posts, even when i specifically ask a moderator who shares similiar hardware to me, but what can i do?

as for BitTorrent, i've alwats had good experience with it, just forward ports 6881-6889 to your lan ip etc and enjoy the speeds, if the speed is slow then u know its coz of the seeders or maybe not enough sources or maybe u live too far from everyone, many things will effect the speeds u get, in theory bittorrent is good, but heck it doesnt work all the time, i've just been lucky i guess :P
