Download Chrome OS

Does anyone know where I can download ChromeOS, linux.iso instead of the getchrome.eu website that requires you to pay to download.

I don't like the ideal of giving some EU website my credit card # and I don't have a PayPal account, they rip me off for $75.00 and I'm not going to give them a second chance.

I just checked that site, and you can download there for free. I don't know why you think you have to give a credit card number.

I got the ChromeOS.iso downloaded and burnt to a CD, ran the live CD on my desktop PC and I got one thing to say, this is Fabulous , For students, Small businesses , to have access to so many Applications.

There is talk that Google is going make available the ChromeOS NetBooks to Students and Small Businesses for $20.00 a month.

I already have a Gmail setup I made through Verizon when I got my Droid phone and it's easy to get in to the Apps.

This will be great for a Internet User. but not a HARDCORE Linux Hacker.

I have a 10" Asus netbook that I'am going to install to from the ChromeOS.iso live CD.

The new ChromeOS netbooks made by Samsung, Acer are coming out on May 15 from Amazon , Best Buy, don't have the hardware that the Netbooks have now, but they do have 3g .

I am somewhat disappointed. Becoming curious I have downloaded the USB-image of Chrome OS and booted from it. Is this a fake. it is a simple strip down of openSuse 11.4 with a bare Gnome (I think it is) and the Chrome browser. OK, there are some brandings, and some specialties for Google's services. But seriously, this is the so hyped Chrome OS? Built with Suse studio, with mostly Suse branding? Every noob had the chance to do this in less than a week. If I am not missing something (I will apologize if so) Chrome OS is in my eyes a lame thing. Who needs tthat?

Its probably a fake-

Now finally a fake distribution of Chrome OS appeared on the internet. To an unexperienced user, it may look like it is actually released by Google, but IT IS NOT! At http://sites.google.com/site/chromeoslinux/home someone created a download site for it using Google Sites. Due to the Google URL it may appear to be the original one. It also appeared on several download sites with Google Inc. as developer. In fact it is a personal distribution created with SUSE studio. I donít know how it looks like, because I havenít tried it yet and of course I wonít. Please donít download it and donít link the site. Itís a scam.
http://chromeos-blog.com/chrome-os-beta-fake/

Moral of the story- even if the filename looks right, or is exactly the same as what you are expecting doesnt mean the file/.iso is legit, or even what it says it is. D/ling .isos from P2P or filesharing sites has always seemed pretty crazy to me anyway....

I'm never suggest that any user, student or otherwise (let alone 'small business') should use ChromeOS without reading, and understanding the licence requirements and limitations.

That is a later version of the one I have. It is built on top of Suse Studio.
http://getchrome.eu/home/ is example of the Docs and other Apps for ChromeOS.

Downloaded and tried the latest SUSE-chromeOS. Calling it a fake may be a bit harsh. but disappointing, yes.
Don't know what the devs have in mind, I assume they are mimicking the behavior of goggle's OS, i.e. create a
os that boots asap into a browser. If that's the case there is a tutorial at:

that may be a better way to go. ,at least until the real thing comes along.

Believe it or not, Goggle offered me a CR-48 last December and I turned them down, ...it was late, ...I was tired.

anyone wanting to do somewhat the opposite thing, run linux in a browser using a javascript. see:
< http://linux.slashdot.org/story/11/0...n-Your-Browser > nice trick.
