I have to run DeLuxe Paint on a ms dos emulator under linux.
Which should I choose? dosemu or dosbox, can you suggest me
which is preferable?

Just try one and see if it works...?

Try dosemu or wine. dosemu is better than dosbox

I think that both works, only I would like to know which project is more stable
or could has features that could help me to do things like access the dos fs
from linux or save screenshots or something.

have you tried qemu? it comes with redhat.

I've never had any problems with dosbox.

I would only run deluxe paint, nor installing a whole operating system.
I think it should not crash on dosemu.

I use Dosbox, I have not tried dosemu. The main reason being that dosbox works well for me. You need to make sure you set up your dosconf file first though, and you may need different ones for different software.

e.g. Mappings are set up
[autoexec]
# Lines in this section will be run at startup.

mount c /home/DosGames/
mount d /mnt/cdrom/
c:

Also you can set where you want screenshots and sounds saved, under [dosbox] section

# captures -- Directory where things like wave,midi,screenshot get captured.

captures=capture

It might be worth investigating running Deluxe Paint 4 on an Amiga emulator like UAE as well. Reason being that the Amiga version got more features than the MS-DOS version.

Perhaps also trying to investigate if there are some native Linux Bitmap-editors you could use so you don't have to emulate at all.

Yes, I am also trying the latest version of DPaint (5.2) on uae.
For linux seems not to be bitmap editor as pratical as DPaint. (The Gimp is for
photographic use: when in editors like DPaint draw with left button and erase with right,
for example, in Gimp you have to switch foreground and background and so on..)
I hope there will be, one day.
