dont have the xf86setup in slackware 7.1?

i downloaded zipslack 7.1 and placed on a ext dos partition on my compaq contura 430c.
followed all the install and got to the darkstar prompt and created a password. Next I am trying to run xf86setup or config. In my pc on the ----
/usr/X11R6/bin/ I have only 3 things here Xconsole* xminicom* and xwmconfig*...???

I dont have this /usr/X11R6/bin/XF86Setup or /usr/X11R6/bin/xf86config..???

What can I do here?

Do I need to download 8.0 and start over for it to work this time?

I did this all over but downloaded zipslack 8.0 and did the install all over again. ok, here we go...I now have in the usr/X11 and a X11R6...i went into the X11 and found xfree86config no setup.
How am I going to config X or get the xf86config???xfree86setup??? any of this to just work for me??????

I want help.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

* what can you do w/ lilo.conf if you edit it.
well I found where the vga and resolutions are setup here. Can you change these for the settings on your own video/display type?

  :smash:

use xf86config to setup your X, it works much better than the setup does in my experience..

didn't realize that you were using zipslack before but if you think about it really hard, Zipslack doesn't come with X.. you have to download it and install it if you want it.

So, where do I get it?

And how would I install it ?

Thanks Tricky!

i was trying to look for the X packages and here i found the direction.

I'm a newbie in this whole Forum.... although been using RH and Zipslack for quite sometime already. I had never did any major reconstruction on the kernel..just some light recompilation. a general user.
