Domain-less home webserver

Hello all,

I have a webserver on which I am running CentOS 4.4, apache, php, mysql, etc. I am using webmin + virtualmin as control panels. What I want to do is set up a testing server so I can test some of my sites in producton conditions. The problem is, I don't have domains to point to this server, nor do I want to do this because it would open the server to the web.

I know that when an account is set up using cpanel, not only is the domain pointed to the account, but also xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/~username (where xxx is the server IP). Webmin does not seem to do this. How can I set up my server to allow for an easy creation of such accounts, without domains? I have no interest in things like email, although FTP would be nice.

Thank you.

Just cause you have a domain pointed to your server doesn't necessarily it's open to the world. Close off the ports and setup your own DNS server to point to the server with a name, all done internally if you want.

As for the <url>/~user

Usually by default apache will look for a public_html file in each users home directory. You can define this in your httpd.conf file. Just script it so when you add users, it automatically creates this directory for htdocs to be placed, etc.

Yup, that was it. I just had to enable it in httpd.conf. Thank you.
